STR KES Class Offerings
Build your drawing skills via two class options:
Class 1: Foundations of Still Life Drawing
Students will learn essential sighting techniques—the process of measuring an object’s shape and size for accurate proportions. They will also explore “drawing through,” a method that helps visualize objects in three-dimensional forms such as cylinders, cones, cubes, and spheres. Additional techniques taught in the class will include perspective drawing using horizon lines and vanishing points. The artists will also learn cross-contour lines to guide the structure of their composition. By the end of this class, students will have completed the outline of their still-life composition, establishing the foundation for their fully developed drawing.
Class 2: Bringing Drawings to Life
In the second class, students will learn to create detail in their drawings to give life to their work. This will be achieved using various shading techniques, including:
Scumbling: drawing circular strokes to create texture
Stippling: creating texture with dots
Hatching & Cross-Hatching: building contrast through parallel and intersecting lines
Through these shading methods, students will refine their work, bringing realism and depth to their still-life drawings while expressing their unique artistic styles.
